7 Goals In My Journey Towards Personal Growth
One of my strongest beliefs is this. You never ever stop growing. There is always room for improvement. Learning never ends.
Because I love to learn and love to find new ways I can improve my life my journey towards personal growth is always in progress. For me, growth is an essential ingredient for a happy simple life. In the past year I have added some new things to my personal growth checklist.
What are the things Iโve been working on? What would I like to start trying? What could you add to your personal development checklist?
Letโs see if we can find new goals for this year!
Why is My Journey Towards Personal Growth Important?
Productivity and positive thinking is great but sometimes we all just want to give up and quit trying. The diet doesnโt work, we fall back into our bad habits, our goals donโt pan out, or we face a serious setback.
At that point itโs easy to feel like a failure and get down on yourself.
Others have the opposite problem. They do not humbly acknowledge any need for improvement or change and you better like it or lump it.
Well, both attitudes just get you stuck. Instead, I have found that when I continuously look at my journey towards personal growth I never feel stuck. Iโm always moving forward, making steady progress towards better things.
When you start looking at your personal growth checklist you will feel the same! Suddenly you will have forward momentum again and you might be surprised by how much small actions can change your life.
My Personal Growth Checklist
There are a lot of different goals that can fall under the category of personal growth. Maybe some of my goals are the same as yours and maybe you have some different goals you are focused on.
For inspiration though, letโs talk about some of the things that I have been working on in my journey towards personal growth. At the end please comment and let me know what you would like to work on this year. Who knows! It could even become a future post here on the blog!
1: Personal Growth Goals for Good Health
Obviously one of the first goals on anyoneโs list is to have good health. If you arenโt protecting and promoting your health we are probably losing it.
Sometimes though we make our health goals really hard or complicated. And we often focus on how we look more than our actual health.
However, my goal is to harness simple healthy habits every day. I already exercise often but I would also like to get better at portion control, eat less sugar and do another alcohol free experiment this year.
What about you?
2: Be More Creative
I have always loved being creative! I believe that having a creative hobby as an adult is an important part of self care and even good mental health.
There are lots of minimalist hobbies I enjoy and I want to make sure I continue to make time for things like playing my violin, writing, sewing, and making jewelry for my Etsy business as these are all things that help me enter a state of flow and feel like myself.
Do you have a favorite creative hobby you would like to pick up again this year?
3: Take Time for Self Care
As I mentioned part of my self care routine is creativity but Iโve learned that I need to do other things as well.
For example those healthy habits and exercise I mentioned above double as self care because it keeps me healthy. So does taking time to rest, having a cup of tea in the afternoon, going for coffee with a friend, and sitting on the back porch. Whenever I donโt feel like myself I try to get outside more because nature is always relaxing.
Taking time for self care is something that should definitely be on your personal growth checklist because it will keep you from burning out. Whenever you feel like self care is selfish remember that you canโt help anyone else if you are all worn out.
4: Productivity Hacks
I consider my journey towards personal growth as a puzzle where I figure out the best way to live and get things done. Unfortunately life includes a lot of boring every day chores and tasks that add up if you donโt stay on top of them. My goal is to work smarter not harder so I have time for the things I really enjoy.
Productivity hacks like using a planner, building tiny habits, focusing on progress made, meal planning, and creating systems to get boring things like grocery shopping done in the least time possible all help me achieve my goals.
What are some productivity hacks you would like to add to your personal development checklist this year?
5: Personal Qualities
One of the most important things in my journey towards personal growth is focus on developing good qualities. I believe that how we treat others is ultimately the measure of our value.
That being said my goals are to be patient, humble and kind in my treatment of others, even when I feel frustrated.
What about you? What good qualities would you like to further develop in yourself?
6: Improve Relationships
Good qualities endear us to others and so do certain skills. For example we all need to learn to be more present. I know that I am often distracted by my phone, my personal concerns, or something else that is rolling around in my mind. I want to be a better listener.
I also want to improve my relationship with others by having the habit of serving them. Sometimes I am too wrapped up in my own life and my goal for this year is to always look for ways to serve others and show them the kindness they need.
7: Learning More for Personal Growth
As the years pass I donโt want to say that any one of them went by without my learning something new. We should never stop learning.
In my journey towards personal growth Iโve realized that there are a million ways to learn new things. You can take online courses, listen to audio books, take classes at your local college, or ask people questions.
As a wise friend of mine once said; โYou donโt learn by not doing.
In the past few years I have learned a lot about blogging and writing. My personal development checklist for this year includes honing in on my creative writing skills and learning more about being a good teacher.
What would you like to learn this year?
What Other Goals Will I Try on My Journey Towards Personal Growth?
As you can see, your personal growth checklist can include a lot of different types of things. Mine certainly does. What will I learn this year? How will I improve? Time will tell what good habits I will stick with and what new things I will learn.
Odds are good I will write about the things I am learning because I believe the best way we can help our friends is by communicating our struggles and finding the solutions together.
I hope you feel inspired to start your personal growth journey! Let me know what you want to put your personal development checklist and we will work on it together!
That be a better Teacher one! ๐
Great post! Thank you! I’m working on a “no sugar” and lower carb month. Also trying to incorporate some self care and being “present”.
Good goals! Jerilynn. You’re name is so similar to mine btw lol! No sugar is hard cause it’s hiding in so many things. I recently wrote on being present and self care! Hopefully those articles can help too. Thanks for the comment ๐
