Build a Fun Minimalist Capsule Wardrobe for Summer 2025!
It’s time for summer! I love summer and a lot of my favorite clothes are summer clothes! Why? Because my style profile is pretty much summed up in three words. Casual, boho, and colorful!
That being said, I’m pretty finicky about my summer clothes. I have got to be able to breathe and move in them and that kicks out a lot of fabrics and styles. What about you? Do you love your summer capsule wardrobe? Do you have versitile peices to create lots of cute summer outfits? If not, do you want to build a minimalist capsule wardrobe for summer that you will love?
What Should You Include In Your Minimalist Capsule Wardrobe for Summer?
To be honest, I do like doing a seasonal closet organization but I don’t do four separate capsules a year. Instead I put Spring and Summer together and then Fall and Winter together. Because of that my Summer capsule wardrobe has a lot of the things I featured in my recent Spring Capsule Wardrobe post.
As temperatures heat up I need some even lighter items. I’ve learned that all my clothes for summer need to be cotton, rayon, or linen based because if I’m wearing polyester I won’t survive the heat and jeans are just too heavy. Sure all those natural fabrics require ironing but it’s well worth the all day comfort.
As you look at building your minimalist capsule wardrobe for summer you should also consider some bright colors. Why? Because they are fun! But aren’t minimalist wardrobes all about being bland and neutral? Nah! Let’s break the rules! To wear color without making your wardrobe too complicated stick to 2-3 neutrals like khaki, blue and olive green and 3-4 of your favorite colors. Mine are raspberry, blue, turquoise, and orange!
Now that you have an idea of what we are looking for as we build your minimalist wardrobe for summer let’s dig into the specifics.

Light and Breezy Pants and Shorts
Let’s start with pants. It’s easy to build an outfit starting with the blouse but I find it’s often more practical to pick the pants first.
For example, if you are going to be in the heat you may want a nice pair of cargo shorts because they are made from lightweight fabric but designed for adventure and fun. On the other hand, if mosquitos eat you like they eat me you will be better served by some linen pants. I use the ones I have all the time in the summer!
Last but not least, for a festival, a fair, a concert, or a dinner date you might want to look a little more festive and bright with some flowy palazzo pants!

Blouses That Will Keep You Cool!
I know a lot of people like to wear t-shirts and stretchy knit tank tops in the summer but it’s truly more comfortable to wear rayon and cotton blend blouses that are loose fitting.
I love a classic collared sleeveless blouse because it can be dressed up or down. A lightweight ruffle sleeve blouse can add a touch of whimsy while a basic v-neck linen top is easy to pop on with almost anything.
And as I mentioned before, if you are trying to keep the bug bites away going covered may be better. I have learned that long sleeves are great in the summer as long as the shirt is made of a lightweight natural fabric. I have this exact peasant blouse and it’s perfect for even the hottest day!
Fun and Easy Dresses
Next you are going to want at least one fun and easy dress. I’m telling you, when it’s really hot there is nothing cooler than a nice flowy dress! Plus they are fun to wear to places like wineries and events like festivals so even if you don’t think you have anywhere to wear a dress you totally do! I even love to wear them on road trips because they don’t pinch your waist.
But what kind of dress? Well, it depends on what you like. I’m a shamelessly feminine boho gal so I can’t pass up a floral dress but a loose casual dress is also easy to dress up or down. And if you just can’t get into a dress try a smocked jumper for the same feel!
Poolside Style
What minimalist wardrobe for summer is complete without swim wear? Seriously, my favorite part of summer is being in any body of water I can find whether that’s chillin at the pool, kayaking at the lake, or boogie boarding in the ocean!
For years I’ve have been a fan of the tankini style of swimsuit because it’s modest and easy to throw a pair of shorts over. If you want to wear your suit under your clothes or your into showing more skin a long-line high-waisted bikini might be just right!
What about your cover up? Well, you could go with a long blouse cover-up for some sun protection. Another option is to get a great pair of wrap pants. I have used wrap pants for years because I like that they protect my thighs from chafing and look pretty cool to walk around in.
And don’t forget, if you are going to any natural body of water you might want some water shoes to protect your feet from sharp rocks and sticks.
Stylish and Comfy Shoes
Your minimalist wardrobe for summer is not complete! No summer outfit is complete without stylish and comfy shoes that can keep up with all the fun you will be having.
I know the Crocs brand is not synonymous with style but they actually make some cute sandals now and I’ve been a fan for years. I have even worn my crocs sandals to Disneyland and the San Diego Zoo to prove that they are the most comfortable shoes on the planet. My feet never hurt when I wear them and I can’t say that for any of my tennis shoes.
For simple slide on sandals try the Crocs Swiftwater and for a little lift try these braided espadrille platforms. If you want to look a little fancier grab these Lifestride Espadrilles. Lifestride is basically the only brand I buy heels in.

Summer Accessories
Your minimalist wardrobe for summer is almost perfect! Summer is all about having fun and being active. For that reason my summer capsule wardrobe accessories are always pretty simple.
I love my roll up sun hat for when I need a little shade, my baggalini crossbody because it’s light and I can wash it, and these sunglasses which I reorder every time I lose them diving into lakes!
