5 Deep Cleaning Hacks That Make Your House Beautiful!
My house looked beautiful and clean but then I moved the couch.
I don’t even want to tell you about the monster that was hiding under that couch. It was a hideous compilation of dust and hair and popcorn.
It was time to go beyond the surface appearance of my home. I had to do some deep house cleaning.
No matter how nice your house looks at a first glance there are some deep house cleaning tasks that you will need to do from time to time.
I’ve been a cleaning lady for years and there are so many spring cleaning tasks you could tackle. Spring cleaning is a time to find overlooked items you don’t clean every week so the list can go on and on…

Why is deep house cleaning important?
You may ask, however, what is deep house cleaning and how is it different?
Why do I need to do deep house cleaning anyway?
What reason would I have to unleash the beast of dirt and dust hiding under my couch and behind my fridge?
First of all the big difference between regular cleaning and deep house cleaning is this. When you clean your house weekly or daily you take care of things like showers, tubs, sinks, toilets, dust, and floors.
But when you do deep house cleaning you move stuff around and get inside and behind stuff! It’s a bit more work but it doesn’t have to be done quite as often.
But why would we want to do deep cleaning? What could possibly motivate us? Here are a few things to think about.
I think you would agree that we all want to be and stay healthy and we want that for our families too.
A lot of dust, pet dander, and so forth can hide inside, under, and beneath our furniture. All of that can contribute to allergies and asthma.
Mold can even develop in dark humid areas that we may not be aware of and mold can be very toxic to our overall health. Food crumbs find their way behind the fridge and the stove which can bring bugs like roaches into your home.
So now that you know, you know.
Deep cleaning goes beyond appearances and helps us to maintain our home and more importantly our health. I’m sure you agree that those reasons make deep house cleaning worth the extra effort.
When will I find the time for deep cleaning tasks?
When we do our basic weekly or daily house cleaning we obviously can’t always clean all of these deeper cleaning areas.
They don’t need to be cleaned as often and these projects are more time-consuming. For that reason, I recommend picking a time period like a week or a month to focus on these projects.
Try to get these projects done at least twice a year. Or you can assign a project to each month so that you can keep things up that way.
I created a couple of nice cleaning schedules including a deep cleaning schedule for getting it done in one week and another for getting one task done a month.
If you don’t want to use it as a schedule you can still use it as a deep cleaning checklist so that you know what you need to do! Grab those schedules below.
Now that you why and when you will do your deep house cleaning lets get to the deep cleaning hacks that will make it as easy as possible!
Deep Cleaning Hacks for Your Stove and Oven
So cleaning your stovetop is a basic task that should be done every time you cook but you can also deep clean it once in a while and this varies for the type of stove you have.
If you have one of the new stoves that have no openings around the burners you will need to lift the lids on the burners and the metal burner assembly off. Then you can wipe all that down and use a paste like Shaklee’s Get Clean Scour Off Heavy Duty Paste for the cooked-on stuff.
Don’t scrub so hard that you scratch your stovetop.
When that’s done you can clean the burner assembly and lids and place them back on. Remember to put the right size assembly on the right burner or it won’t fit.
Deep clean hacks for those old school stoves…
If you have a classic stove with openings around the burners you can actually lift the top like the picture below shows. When you do this you will find all the crumbs and spills from your cooking.
It is definitely good to stay on top of this because those food crumbs attract bugs and it can get pretty gross if you’re a messy cook like me.
At this point, I have to confess that the first time I opened my stovetop up I was totally surprised and disgusted. I never knew you could open it but I was really happy I found out.
I usually take my small shop vac to it first so I don’t have to chase the crumbs around in circles, then I simply scrub where needed and wipe it out. It’s so much prettier when I’m done!
Deep Cleaning Hacks for Ovens That Make it Easy!
Now we will need to clean the oven. This may seem like a big task but it’s not really that bad because most ovens have the self-clean option which is awesome! It one of the deep cleaning hacks that is so easy you wish you knew it sooner!
Just remove the racks and turn it on some time that you will be around and when it is cooled off it’s pretty easy to wipe out the ash.
For those without self-clean you will need to take the grates out and scrub them, then scrub the bottom and sides and even the door.
Using some kind of paste-like Shaklee’s Scour off really helps.
If you have a glass window on your oven door wipe it off with vinegar inside and outside when you are finished to make it shine.
No More Sticky Trash Cans:
Cleaning your trash cans won’t take very long because it’s easy! Still this is one of the deep cleaning hacks you may never have thought of before.
Start by simply taking out the trash and recycle. If there are large pieces of dried food or debris dump them too.
Now squeeze dish soap into the bottom of the trash and take them either outside or to the shower to fill with about 3 inches of water. Take your scrubby and scrub it on the bottom, up the inside sides and also scrub the rim and outside sides.
Dump the dirty water rinse off the soap, and turn them upside down to dry.
Blinds and windowsills:
If you Swiffer your blinds every time you clean your house they won’t ever get too bad but if you find them becoming covered in sticky dust, random splatters, or anything else you can deep clean them. And that can be a frustrating process…
So are there any deep cleaning hacks that help me clean blinds without wanting to rip my hair out?
I purchased a Blind Cleaner Duster Brush Kit a long time ago and while it does take some patience I’ve found that it’s easier than anything else.
Simply damp the cloth on your duster and wedge them between the open slats of your blinds and wipe back and forth.
Be careful not to be so rough that you cause your blinds to bend or break. You may need to go over it a few times or rinse off your duster periodically but it will pay off!
Deep Cleaning Hacks for Your Windows
As for the windowsills and window casings they can get full of dirt too. You can shop vac out any dead bugs and large bits of dirt. Then turn your spray bottle nozzle to stream so just the force of the water coming out loosens some of the dirt.
Scrub with a toothbrush, wipe it out several times with paper towels until it is clean, then open your window and do it again to the other side. When you move it back it may have tracked some dirt back to the first side so wipe that again.
Take a scrubber sponge to the windowsill and wipe it all off! It will make a huge difference.
Space it out…
However, the only proviso on this project is that you may not be able to do all your windows at one time. If you are very busy just take one window or one room at a time. This way you will still be able to get it done.
A CLEAN Refrigerator and Freezer:
No one wants to clean out the fridge. It’s gross and time consuming. But don’t worry. It’s all about how you approach it and with a couple simple deep cleaning hacks cleaning out the fridge can be less awful.
First, take one shelf of food out at a time.
Throw away bad or old food. Get brave and wash Tupperware that contained it well. Wipe down the shelves and replace the items you want back in your fridge.
When you get to vegetable drawers you can carefully shimmy them out. Pay attention to how your fridge works. Some fridges have latches holding the drawers.
Empty these drawers and wash them in the sink. Dry them, put them back in, and put food back in. Your all finished and it was easier than you expected!
The freezer is the same as the fridge but colder so use a hot soapy sponge and wipe it out FAST!
This project will be done before you know it.
Baseboard Boogie:
Cleaning the baseboards is your next deep cleaning project.
You may be able to keep them from getting too gross by running a Swiffer or a broom over them every time you clean.
Still, every once in a while they need a good cleaning from scuffs and sticky dust, and random spills. Nothing makes your house look quite as clean as freshly wiped baseboards.
Take it room by room.
Cleaning your baseboards is not hard but the amount of time it takes is directly proportionate to the size of your home! Yes, the more rooms you have the more baseboards wrap around those rooms and so the longer it takes.
That is why for big homes especially I bought one of those great little scooters we used to play with in PE. It doubles as a bit of fun for your kids! With that thing, spraying the baseboards, scrubbing them with a toothbrush, and wiping them off becomes easy and fun!
This is honestly one of the funnest deep cleaning hacks I will probably ever find!
If you are busy like me just try to take one room at a time. If you can, buckle down and do it all at once!
Deep Cleaning Hacks for Behind and Under EVERYTHING!
So cleaning the baseboards will lead to moving furniture.
You would be surprised how much dust and junk can accumulate under your TV stand, your couches, and your bed.
It is worth the effort to clean behind and under your furniture and appliances at least once a year to really keep down dust bunnies, possible mold, and any food particles that could attract bugs.
On hard floors even large pieces of furniture can be fairly easy to move. My house is all tile so when I did the baseboards the only thing I didn’t move was a large bookcase.
If you have carpet or very nice, very heavy real wood furniture this could be a lot harder so you may need to ask for help. I DO NOT WANT YOU TO HURT YOURSELF!
Deep House Cleaning Is Worth It! Enjoy Your Clean Home!
Now you know what deep cleaning tasks that need done and you have all the deep cleaning hacks that will make it easier! You also know what minimalist cleaning supplies you need.
Simply set yourself a deadline, work on these projects a little bit at a time, or all at once if you have a day off and a lot of energy or helpers!
Yes, your family can help! Baseboards, trash cans, and windowsills are not rocket science! Compliment your hubby on his muscles as he moves the furniture, Boogie on the scooter to some great music. Open the windows for some fresh air and then when it’s all done sit down and gaze upon your beautifully clean and healthy home!
